New Clinic Update – Oct 2010.
Gods Surprise Provisions
- A team of students from St George Christian school in Sydney visited CSL, and saw the need of preserving the wood of the new clinic, so they sprang into action in their youthful enthusiasm and energy to paint the external walls of the New Clinic.
- With their busy schedule they didn’t have enough time to complete this impromptu kindness.
- Then the day of their departure Pastor Gabby came from Big Bay with his wife and little boy Zac, (who 3 yrs ago I had the privilege to deliver) in need of medical help.
- So as we helped his wife and little one at the old clinic, he mounted the high ladder and completed the paint job. His sacrifice and labour of love was greatly appreciated, as he declined the offer of a fishing trip, and rose at daybreak (4.30am) “to finish the job”.
Thanking God for Answered prayer.
Lighthouse Baptist in Rockhampton sent a skilled Carpenter for a few days to install the workbenches (*see photos below)
- Mr Ruff sawed and fastened the wood into stylish and pratical benches and shelves, useful for local conditions.
-
The St George Christian School teachers built a cement mould for external steps, and now safe steps allow ease of access to the back of the clinic.
Please continue to pray ....
- 1.For the local national electrician to be available to come and complete the electricals, and availability of necessary fittings available locally.
- 2. For funding and internal plumbing materials including, hospital type taps with elbow operated swing handles and a plumber to install them.
- 3. A handyman to build storage shelves, external steps for the front of the clinic, and hang internal doors, simultaneously teaching a national carpenter.
Here at the Sunflower Dispensary we are so grateful to those who have come to lend a hand, faithfully prayed, and given, to help complete these much needed facilities, as we “preach the kingdom of God and heal the sick” (Luke 9:2), and teach the nationals to do the same.
Rejoicing our names are written in heaven,
Nurse Jane and Peter
- This is the new dispensary at CSL property, which is a rural location.
- We are near the main road heading up the east side of the island.
- Tonite we have one of our bush pastors and wife staying here with us with their sick little boy.

New Sunflower Clinic Update as promised - September, 2010
Luke 9:2 “And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.”
Many have enquired if God has provided a new trainee for the medical Ministry, after Monique successfully completed 2 years training thru the "Sunflower Medical Ministry".
- Monique was accepted to make an “attachment” at the Local Hospital to assess her level of competency.
- This has led to Monique being offered a place in a Nurse Aide Course in the New Year at the local hospital. (This is a new initiative in Vanuatu)
- We thank God for your faithful prayers and financial support to have made this possible.
Praise Point:
New Village Health Care Worker Trainee (VHW)
- We have taken a step of faith, with Gods provision of Betty.
- Betty commenced her VHW training today, for 8hrs each week.
She has been at CSL for some time now and has mastered basic skills needed for a Village health care worker trainee.
- During this time at CSL she has also come to know the Lord personally and after her salvation and follow up earlier this year was baptised by Missionary Jeremy Pinero & Pastor Vissan at Luganville Baptist church.
-
Her family live in a Rural area, and her father has a paralysed arm since birth. Betty’s parents have worked hard in the families garden and sold produce at the market to finance their 4 children’s education.
- Betty schooled English to year 10.
- She has a passion to work with sick & especially disabled, young and old.
- She has already participated in regular First-Aid training and Bible based Medical Modules, taught thru the clinic.
- Armed with this basic knowledge she has been faithfully providing care to her community, on weekend leave and over the Christmas holidays.
Please continue to pray for:
- 1. Betty’s continued spiritual growth.
-
2. Wisdom for Monique and myself as we design and adapt teaching materials, that are Bible based, and culturally appropriate for oral learners, sharing the gospel, and preventing illness and promoting wellness.
- 3. Provision of financial support to increase Betty’s hours in the medical ministry and live on Camp Shining Light Campus.
With much gratitude for your interest, encouragement, provision of resources and financial support, “to preach the kingdom of God and heal the sick”, and train national women to do the same, here in the islands of Vanuatu in the South Pacific.
Rejoicing our names are written in heaven, Nurse Jane & Peter
September 2010 Prayer Update Praise Points:
- During a visit to Grace Baptist, Malanda, earlier this year, we met a newly saved elderly couple who had lived many years on a yacht, sailing the world.
- They had lost contact with some yachty friends who were in Vanuatu last time of contact.
- They requested me if possible to contact them.
- The Lord did a wonderful thing this week and brought us together.
- As these friends now renew contact please pray for their salvation.
Rejoicing two new names are written down in Glory: - A young woman (mentioned in last month’s update) who is at CSL and was saved, does not want to go to heaven alone.
- She is much burdened that her family also follow her.
- During morning devotions she has learnt the Bible verses that go with the wordless book and has learnt to share the gospel using the visualised story of Madugu.
- Others here at camp are also investing in her spiritually.
- Yesterday, Saturday, whilst waiting in the truck, she knocked on the window, with her elder sister. She proceeded to share that the Ni-Van girls at CSL had a special prayer time, Friday night for their unsaved relatives, and then asked for weekend leave.
- In the morning they had shown their sister from the Bible how to be saved. Now her sister is asking for prayer for her unsaved husband.
Today, Esther Ramm from Highlands Baptist church, who is working with the Frangipani children, and also ministers to the women and children in the back of the truck on Sundays, led the 18yr daughter of a clinic mum to the Lord.
Local Church News: Women’s Group trip to Malekula to visit widows and disabled. - Last weekend saw 29 receive the Lord as their Saviour under the preaching of Pastor Vissan.
- The Lord graciously provided a smooth sea for the ship;
- frolicking dolphins and culinary delights abounded daily with fresh snail, goat and other island delicacies.
On a personal note: Last week, some sun - damaged skin of many years, on my left pointer finger, changed in character. - This necessitated some urgent detailed minor surgery.
- Thankfully this all happened whilst Hazel was here on a short visit. The Lord through her provided wise counsel and a local surgeon was able to attend the matter promptly.
- Please pray as wound healing continues in a place that is exposed to the strong sun while driving, and gets banged easily with a young child.
I think it must be wasp season as they seem to be everywhere, in the home, truck, clinic etc, one got me on the neck behind the ear, the reaction was an opportunity to gain more insight into local problems; after 3 or more days it finally settled.
During Hazel’s visit Peter was dedicated to the Lord during church. Pastor Vissan shared from the Word and Pastor Gabby from Big Bay held Peter and prayed. Nurse Monique and her husband Germaine’s new baby daughter Joana Briana, was also dedicated and Missionary Jeremy Pinero prayed for her. Please pray as new parents we can train these little ones for the Lord’s glory here in the islands.
A very special thank you for your faithful prayer and financial support for Gods work here in the islands. Many small parcels have safely arrived this month with useful items not available here for which we are very grateful. Notes of encouragement, preaching CD'S and news from afar are received with appreciation of your time and thoughtfulness as part of the team here.
Rejoicing our names are written in heaven,
Nurse Jane & Peter.
